The main findings of the report include: CCS is viable, a carbon price is critical, Federal coordination should be strengthened, and long-term liability could be a barrier to CCS deployment. The report contains input from 14 Federal agencies and departments, stakeholders, and CCS experts. In addition, the report addresses incentives for CCS adoption and a number of financial, economic, technological, legal, and institutional barriers to deployment; how best to coordinate existing Federal authorities and programs; and areas where additional Federal authority may be necessary. The task force was charged in February 2010 with proposing a plan to overcome the barriers to the widespread, cost-effective deployment of CCS within 10 years, and with a goal of bringing five to 10 commercial demonstration projects online by 2016. The Interagency Task Force on CCS is co-chaired by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). (
